I'm so confused by both how OKC has like so many great picks after trades.
Also I'm confused at which point teams can make trades after the season. I was under the impression that you couldn't trade until after the Finals or at the earliest the draft. Guess I was wrong

Look at OKCS draft compensation for this draft alone after the Kemba trade. Wow!!

Look at OKCS draft compensation for this draft alone after the Kemba trade. Wow!! Still makes OKC basically a Farm Team for the NBA. New Orleans the same. Maybe even Dallas. And that's just for a start. The league has too many teams that play too many games, in addition to the talent dilution I'm mentioning here. And now we see a skills dilution with Yannis and Simmons. Don't think it's a coaching issue alone-- it's the stupid AAU/NCAA treadmill in this country. It's a shame. Maybe LaMelo Ball is the future. And why does the regular season differ so wildly from the playoffs? It's ridiculous when you you think about it. The NBA should contract the number of games and the number of teams.

Lotta good points but you cant blame AAU. Giannis and Ben, for instance, aren't even American. Before AAU players just played high school and local summer league. Now the best play high school and regional summer league. As the game has become Moreyesque (3 pointers and layups) athleticism has taken precedent over old time fundamental skills. Mid range pull up isn't necessary, tell Chris Paul and Kawai Leonard. It is just a totally different sport from a couple decades ago. much better shooting and much more athleticism. The league wanted this type of product and sometimes I enjoy it. Other times, not so much.

You’re right about them not being able to trade, Jason, but they’ll get around it by not officially announcing it until the legal period begins. As long as Woj and Shams are around there are no secrets in the NBA! This trade makes no sense to me from the Boston side, giving up the sixteenth pick in the draft for the rotting corpse of Al Horford, who makes slightly less money but also has two years remaining on his deal. The only possibility I see here is that Stephens coached Horford when he was in Boston and thinks they missed his leadership and intangibles. Everyone is saying that Kemba will be on the move and will never play a game for OKC. I can see the Knicks as a possibility if their top choices don’t pan out, but I think their preferences will be to go younger and healthier. From OKC’s side, the pick will help, but the amount of picks they’ve accumulated has gone beyond smart to ridiculous. You can’t rebuild forever and unless the NBA expands to NFL roster size, the majority of those picks will have to be moved or go on players that won’t make the team.

I don't see the AAU system as a huge detriment to young basketball stars. They get plenty of exposure, play more games and they get tested by going up against the best of the best. The biggest issues with the AAU system is the sense of entitlement these youngsters acquire and the almost total lack of quality coaching afforded them. The whole system is based on dunks and treys with very little fundamentals included.
As for OKC's future it's muddled at best. OKC isn't going to attract elite superstars and while they have had elite superstars they were mostly home grown. Right now the best player for the Thunder is SGA who is a pretty good player but more a 3rd option than the first. Will he stay and how will Sam Presti, an excellent front office person, surround him with talent?
The #4 pick in this year's draft will yield a superstar capable player. The Thunder can present a pretty attractive package to get another pick in the top 10. Jalen Suggs and Kai Jones would be a huge talent upgrade.
