I want to resign Burks, Rose, Noel(to a reasonable deal), Mitch and I suppose Bullock. But I want to go either via trade or with some free agency money, hard after a shooter. I know we need a point guard to replace Payton. But Atlanta had Huerter(always liked him), Gallo(been there and done that), and Bogdonovic(wanted him last offseason). What if we go after Miami Heats Duncan Robinson. He's playoff tested hungry and can shoot lights out and he could definitely bolster our 2 guard/wing spot even possibly replacing Bullock if we can sign all three of Burks/Bullock and Duncan. I don't want to put all our eggs in one basket but we need to be aggressive in the market for shooters and more importantly shot makers. Thoughts? Any other shooters we can acquire this offseason to take our team up a notch? I'm watching Seth Curry and I get your idea of a tremendous as opposed to good shooter. Bullock is a very good shooter and the opponent game plan has to be' "make sure you are aware of where he is. . But Seth or Duncan Robinson are different. The writing on the chalkboard is "don't leave him, YOU have NO help responsibilities. Just to keep things objective 3 Knicks shot treys better than Duncan Robinson (Burks, Julius and Bullock) and one (RJ) was just behind. Seth Curry was on another planet.

So I get how you and others are looking at percentages on paper about who shot better than who right? Well did RJ didn't shoot as many 3s as Robinson or Seth Curry. So when we only look at percentages vs the nuance of how MANY 3s a player is taken in comparison, yes the percentages are going to be lower. Now you want to add Powell which is fine and I want a shooter that plays defense and works hard and creates his own shot, and Robinson is all 3. Whether we add Powell and/or Robinson to Bullock and Burks or to replace them remains to be seen. I want to maintain if not get better than the 5-7 games that we lost this year because all of our "shooters" couldn't buy a bucket and we only relied on Randle for the last shot. Robinson has taken many clutch and last shots despite the fact Herro and Butler are there. I watch this team unfortunately because I live down here. I don't want to just bring ALL of the guys back while everyone below us like Boston and Charlotte and others get better by improving the talent. Even if we strike out for swinging a blockbuster trade this summer which is likely I want to replace Payton maybe Frank and others WITH better talent. My last point on the 3 point shooting is by definition Frank is one of the best ones on the team but he averaged less than 10 mins a game. So with context of the fact RJ usually attempted 4 and made 2, Randle attempts 10 and make 3 or 4, these are not PURE shooters, they just have the corner or elbow 3 in their arsenal. We didn't even offer anything to Joe Harris and he has been a revelation for the Nyets this year because KD AND Harden and Kyrie make it easy for him to make comfortable pure threes from everywhere when they get doubled. That's all I'm saying. He might not want to even leave Miami but you put in an offer to a guy like that for the same reasons you think Powell can improve a team. Better talent.

Robinson's numbers align almost perfectly with Reggie Bullock's season stats. They both shot 41% from beyond the three point line. Robinson attempted 10 shots a game with 8.5 being 3 point attempts while Reggie shot 8.6 times a game with 6.1 coming from beyond the 3 point line. Their PERs are almost identical. The difference is Robinson, who is 2 years younger than Reggie, is going to cost a LOT more than Reggie this summer and that is if the Heat let him go which I doubt. Seriously I wouldn't mind Robinson except I think we have to overpay him by a bunch and even then I honestly believe the Heat match our offer. Plus Bullock is a superior defender, Trae Young, notwithstanding. Both are average athletes and I want the Knicks to improve their athleticism. I too want to improve the Knicks overall talent.
I like Powell because he does more than Reggie or Duncan and he will likely be cheaper. He's also the uber athlete I covet. I like Reggie more than Robinson because he will be a LOT cheaper. Rather than attempting to poach Robinson and Nunn why not hire the guy who scouted them along with Herro and Adebayo. That sounds like a better plan. Or we could just re-hire Clarence Gaines...

Clarence Gaines the Clarance Beeks of the NBA. You are certainly correct about the cost and herd work defense of Bullock. But he has NO moves and can barely dribble. I do think Robinson will cost a small fortune and think Miami may well decide to let him go unless there is a sign and trade. I do really like Powell but I see no way Portland let's him go. I think they trade CJ before they lose Powell.

The Miami salary situation is much more flexible than Portland who has 100 million dollars committed to just Dame, CJ, Covington, and Nurkic. CJ is signed 3 more years at 100 million. In these post COVID times where every team is drowning in red ink even a great player like CJ won't be easy to trade especially coming off a shortened season where he missed 25 games and turns 30 right before the season starts. Miami has a team option of 15 million on Iguodala and 19 million on Dragic who are 37 and 35 respectfully and they are already under the cap projections for next season. Signing Powell puts Portland into luxury tax territory and while they are owned by the Allen family they are NOT owned by the Ballmer family.
But none of this matters if we remember the two main premises of this Knicks off season.
Trust the management.
Get more talent.

Again, I’d love to have an elite three point shooter or even two on the Knicks, they’re fun and exciting to watch. Seth Curry is the best of all that’s available, now let’s look at his career. Seven teams in nine years! Why is that? Because Curry and most of the other great snipers available can’t do anything else. And they’re easy to guard. Just put a man on him and he can’t do anything. The only way Curry and other players like him become valuable is that you surround them with superstars. Curry had his best year this year because he plays on a team with Embiid, Simmons and Tobias Harris. Joe Harris is such a weapon because he plays with KD, Kyrie and Harden. Put them on the Knicks and they become a focal point of other team’s defenses and then they’re not as effective. That’s why we shouldn’t even be thinking about elite three point snipers until we acquire a superstar or even two, so that opposition defenses can’t afford to think about them. That’s where the Knicks should be focused.

That’s where the Knicks should be focused. If a front office can't do multiple things at once I'm scared for that franchise. You have to have contingencies if Lillard trades and Kawhi acquisitions don't work out. You do realize that for a superstar to be traded here, that RJ and Mitch and IQ are gonna be the ones they want. Then Lillard is gonna be playing with Norvelle Pelle and Theo Pinson. Be careful what you ask for if a superstar ACTUALLY COMES this summer and we have to give up more than what we did in the Melo deal, that some Knicks fans STILL can't stop talking about. Look at the Paul George, Chris Paul, and James Harden deals and you will get the gist of why if any top 10 player that is available to be traded comes here, our young core is bye bye, including our picks.

JB,
Very good points about not gutting your team to acquire a star. With all the number 1 and 2 picks though, I have a gut feeling Mitch and 2 number 1 draft picks and 3 number 2 picks might be in play for Lillard or Beal.

Pearl And that's fair because you have to give to get. My deal with Beal though is this, how can he get us over where he couldn't with John Wall or Russell Westbrook. Not being a smart-ass but really asking. Would Beal allow us to get more stars that Washington DC didn't?

I actually think Dame or Beal gets us more stars, however I'm not so willing to give up Mitch yet.

Has nothing to do with multi tasking, Jason, but has to do with cap space. You can’t sign a bunch of role players, then have no money left for the big stars. And you’re not trading the house for a superstar, that’s why you accumulated all your picks. The idea is to trade the picks and at most one young asset for the star. And obviously including a 21 year old player like RJ would reduce significantly if not completely what else you would include in the deal.

Personally I'm not trading Beal or Dame to the knicks for a bunch of picks unless the player demands it. But if we cant get someone like that how about identifying the next Bogdonovich. Let's get a couple players on that level and revisit next off season.

Ok so what year is this superstar and specifically WHOM do you think is willing trade us our superstar Mark. Outside of Lebron a few times and KD and Kyrie once last year, the best players in the NBA are still on rookie scale contracts or are on year 2 of the extended max contract and are still or probably were just playing in the playoffs. Our picks aren't lotto anymore and now are mid to late first round draft picks. Again gauging what I could get from the Knicks versus say the picks Chicago has along with their young players or the picks OKC or Houston has, who do you think has a better chance at giving picks that might be available between our three teams in trades? Houston might be 1-3 overall the next two years at least in the draft. Chicago at least this year is 1-6 overall and we have 17, 19 and 32. If you were an opposing GM who had a top player, which one would you engage when you had no obligation to trade SAID superstar player no matter how disgruntled he was? Also what are you suggesting if we don't get Lillard or Kawhi or a superstar this summer? Stand pat?? Your not giving me anything but get a superstar and those deals are far a few between. How would you do it Mark? You know everything I do too about our picks and cap so what's out there that Rose needs to look at?

No hitches in the upper body and great footwork = consistency and efficiency every game. It's one thing with percentages on paper but if you blow hot and cold from game to game then 40% from downtown is very deceiving. Cannot think of a single "pure shooter" on the roster. Why is that, Gates? Never mind about the D of these players for now. So yeah we don't have one of those pure shooters but boy we sure could use one.
