......access to the Athletic.
I want to read this article I see about Kareem wanting to be traded to the Knicks in the 70s, only for the Bucks to send him to the Lakers instead.
Kareem was interviewed for the article but I refuse to pay for newspaper subscriptions in this day and age.
Thank you in advance if any of you do and care to share.

Jason, I do not have access to the Athletic, but I have heard the story. IIRC, the Knicks were his first choice, but the Knicks did not really have enough young talent to trade back to the Bucks at the time. So, the Bucks asked Kareem if he would be interested in the Lakers who did have players that interested the Bucks (i.e. Junior Bridgeman). Since Kareem went to UCLA and loved it, he agreed to go to the Lakers if the Bucks could make a deal.

That makes me sick. Could you imagine what would've been? Sheesh!! Obviously it reminds me of the two real situations of us signing Michael Jordan just before he resigned in his last Chicago Bulls contract. And, when Kobe almost got traded for Allan Houston when he and Shaq were having their issues. 3 times we almost had alltime great in the orange and blue but it wasnt meant to be.

NYC in the seventies was the jazz Mecca. Dozens of great clubs. And Kareem was the ultimate jazxophile.
